Permeable friction course pavements (PFCs) are being used more frequently by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as a pavement surface layer for reasons of safety, amenity, and environmental benefits. PFCs are defined in TxDOT Specifications Item 342 as a surface course of a compacted permeable mixture of aggregate, asphalt binder, and additives mixed hot in a mixing plant (1). These pavements are a new generation of open-graded friction course (OGFC) designed to achieve good drainability and reduce the generation and propagation of traffic noise. P
