Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) is a unique type of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite (HPFRCC). The most distinctive characteristic of ECC is the high tensile ductility achieved by the formation of multiple micro-cracks. However, there is still a lack of research on the functional performance of pavement made of ECC, namely skid resistance and water surface drainage capability, which are related to safety. Three tests were performed: British Pendulum, Sand Patch method, and Outflow Meter tests to evaluate the functional performance. The test results show that the skid resistance of the surface pavement can be improved by adopting hard fine aggregates into ECC mix, as it provides both the micro- and macro-textures. However, there is still a risk of hydroplaning. Furthermore surface texturing methods were introduced to reduce the risk of hydroplaning by improving the drainage capability as well as the skid resistance of ECC pavement
