It is proposed to stop the High Output train at the exact location of work (which would ordinarily be a distance from a controlled signal) and take possession around the train. The train would not (ordinarily) stop at the preceding controlled signal. This proposal is called 'Flexible Train Arrival Point' (FTAP). The objective is to increase the production time of High Output trains in available possessions. The High Output trains may then be authorised to pass signals with a proceed aspect, and then be controlled to an accurate stop by using the FTAP suite of signs.
FTAP Boards will be erected on standard Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR) posts prior to worksite handback, or Line Blockage prior to Possession. The position will be advised to the Signaller.
To allow trials of the FTAP procedure to go ahead a non compliance is required against Clause 3.2 to allow a possession to be taken around an Engineering train / On-Track Machine (OTM) that is stopped at an FTAP stop location.
