Declared on 11 March 2020 as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become the most urgent crisis today. It has affected the normal lives of citizens—disrupting their routines and causing them severe physical, social, and economic distress. In Asia and the Pacific, the poor and the vulnerable people in cities are the most adversely affected by this pandemic. While various diseases and epidemics have influenced the development of cities over the centuries, a pandemic like COVID-19 has caused an unprecedented global impact on cities across the world.
