Armenia has made considerable progress in poverty reduction since independence in 1991 but still faces development challenges, including gender mainstreaming. Armenia has moved from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, with new economic, social, and territorial priorities. The country faces constraints on regional and global integration, economic risks, and governance problems.
